Make your postpartum easier with a postpartum nest!
A postpartum nest is collecting all your must-have postpartum and newborn items and setting them up in a space that makes them easy to grab and find while your hands are full and your body is recovering postpartum.
Creating a postpartum nest (or multiple nests around your home) is the perfect way to have all your postpartum necessities at your fingertips!
In the early days postpartum having a nest set up helps encourage and promote rest and creates a comfortable space for you to be with your baby. If you have older kids a postpartum nest may come in handy at any stage and also be a good way to encourage older kids to help out.
4 things to consider when creating your postpartum nest:
๐๐ผ Create one bigger nest in your bedroom so you have a place of privacy and a dedicated place of rest (very helpful to escape to if some unaware visitors are overstaying their welcome)
๐๐ผ Create a bunch of smaller nests in other common places you spend time, e.g. the lounge room, kids rooms or play spaces
๐๐ผ Have you or your partner reset this space each day, maybe even get the older kids involved!
๐๐ผ Create your nests to your postpartum needs, if you have any certain items for your postpartum recovery a nest is the perfect place to put them!
What you have in your postpartum nest may change as the weeks go on, but some items are non-negotiables when it comes to newborn life! My must-have items include:
Reuseable & disposable nappies
Water wipes
Tissues
Small bin
Face washers
Nappy cream
Thermometer
Suits/change of baby clothes
Singlets
Swaddles
Small towels/burp clothes

Insulated drink bottles
Breast pads
Deodorant & lip balm

Snacks
Turning my bassinet into one large postpartum nest was one of the best things I did as a second time mum! Resting and recovering postpartum was one of my biggest priorities so having all the items I needed at my fingertips helped reduce the amount of times I had to leave bed within the first 15 days.
A postpartum nest is just one way to help you adjust and transition into motherhood, another is my โThe First Fortyโ postpartum offering. The First Forty begins in pregnancy and follows you through until the 40th day postpartum, set to help you prioritize rest, recovery, and healing, bond with your baby, and form connections, and create a village that you can lean on as you navigate postpartum and motherhood.
